[back]
Day 1. Travel from Tashkent to Fergana takes 6 hours (390 km). The road passes through many
villages. You will see the Tayabuzskoe water reservoir, which is also called the Tashkent sea,
cross Sirdarya river, where it leaves the Fergana valley through gigantic gates formed by the
Kuraminskiy (Tien-Shan) and Turkestanskiy (Pamiro-Alai) mountain ranges.
On the way you cross the Uzbek-Tadjik border twice. Then stop in Kokand for lunch and enjoy
sight-seeing at the Khudoayr-han Palace and the Museum of Ethnography.

Day 2. Enjoy sight-seeing at a silk factory in Margilan (8 km drive from Fergana) using hand
technology for silk production. You will see all stages of the production, beginning with
making silk threads from cocoons of silk worms and finishing with a visit to the weaving-room.
In the shop of this factory you can buy silk articles made here in the factory. Then, transfer to
Rishtan for sight-seeing at a ceramic factory and get acquainted with the technology of ceramic
production. Visit handicrafts locations where people still draw ceramic articles by hands. Here
you can also purchase earthen toys and laygans (big earthen plates).
