Day
1. Travel from Tashkent to Fergana takes 6 hours (390 km). The road passes
through many
villages. You will see the Tayabuzskoe water reservoir,
which is also called the Tashkent sea,
cross Sirdarya river, where it leaves the Fergana valley
through gigantic gates formed by the
Kuraminskiy (Tien-Shan) and Turkestanskiy (Pamiro-Alai)
mountain ranges.
On the way you cross the Uzbek-Tadjik border twice. Then
stop in Kokand for lunch and enjoy
sight-seeing at the Khudoayr-han Palace and the Museum
of Ethnography.
Day 2. Enjoy sight-seeing at a silk factory in Margilan
(8 km drive from Fergana) using hand
technology for silk production. You will see all stages
of the production, beginning with
making silk threads from cocoons of silk worms and finishing
with a visit to the weaving-room.
In the shop of this factory you can buy silk articles
made here in the factory. Then, transfer to
Rishtan for sight-seeing at a ceramic factory and get
acquainted with the technology of ceramic
production. Visit handicrafts locations where people
still draw ceramic articles by hands. Here
you can also purchase earthen toys and laygans (big earthen
plates).
