Shahrisabz is the native city of Tamerlane.
It is a small city, wallowing in verdure, and
situated in the mountainous
foot of the Gissarskiy range, 130 km to the south from Samarkand.
If you decide to make the one-day trip on Sunday to Shahrisabz, a stop
in Jam- bazaar is possible. Here you will not see
the modern trade rows for everything here is as it
was centuries ago. Here you can buy rugs with decorations particular to
this region. You will visit architectural monuments such as the Ak-
Sarai and Kok-Kumbaz Mosques, Torut Tilovat Mausoleum, and
the Dorus Siadat Necropolis which are associated
with Amir Timur. You willfind out many interesting facts about this cruel
conqueror. The road back to Samarkand is over the Tahta-Karacha pass.
Panorama views from this pass will remain forever in your
memory. You will then lunch in a cafe, the Thousands
chinaras (platan).
